Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Parboiled Rice
  • 8 Cups Water (or as needed)

Equipment

  • Electric rice cooker

Method

Step 1- Soak the Rice
  1. Soak 3 Cups of Rice in about 5 Cups of water for an hour.
Step 2 - Rinse to Clear Water
  1. After soaking for one hour, rinse the rice for at least 4-5 times. The last rinse should release clear water (as shown in the video).
Step 3 - Place the Steaming Plate in the Pot
  1. Place the perforated steaming plate at the base of the inner pot (see the video). Use the plate provided with your cooker in the package.
Step 4 - Boil Water in the Electric Cooker
  1. Take 8 cups of water in the inner pot. Place the pot on the heating element and set the cooker to 'Cook' mode. Allow the water to boil.
Step 5 - Add the Rice
  1. When the water is boiling, add the rice carefully with a spatula. Cover the lid and allow it to cook for some time.
Step 6 - Set the Cooker to Warm Mode
  1. After some time the rice grains will spluttering out due to very high temperature. At this point, switch the cooker to 'Warm' mode for 5-10 minutes. Rice continues to cook and soften in the boiling water.
Step 7 - Switch to Cook Mode
  1. When the water looks still, switch to 'Cook' mode again. The rice usually takes about 5-10 minutes more to cooking.
Step 8 - Check the Grain
  1. When the water starts boiling again, check the grains. If they are soft to the core, it is time to switch off the cooker.
Step 9 - Strain the Excess Water
  1. Strain the excess water and serve the rice hot.

Notes

Rice cooking time varies from one cultivar to another. Brown rice takes more time and excess water for proper cooking.
Do not add water and rice at the same time. This may cause the grains to break and force the rice to form a cakey texture. Follow all the steps in my video herein to get the perfect fluffy rice.
Do not place the inner pot with rice without the perforated plate. The rice grains may stick to the base or burn due to high heat.
Always read the user instructions on your electric cooker manual before use for overall safety.
This quantity (3 cups) is sufficient for cooking in 1.8 l cooker.
